Term 4 – Newsletter 4

Dear Parents

I hope all are enjoying the change in weather.

Our second evening was able to happen last week. I would like to thank all teachers and parents for their great team work in producing a successful Speech & Drama event this year.

A few commemoration mugs are available, so please let us have your order of R60 per mug as soon as possible.

ORIENTATION MORNING, 14th November, 08h30 – 10h30
Our Orientation Morning for new Grade 1 pupils will be held from 08h30 – 10h30 on 14th November. Should you know of family or friends who have children entering Grade 1 in 2019, who may be interested in attending, please let us know so we can invite them.

Linda has asked me to remind you that uniform orders need to be in by 1st December. She is also looking at providing a dress specifically for our girls, that will have lilac checks, so please hold on before going to School & Leisure for the brown checked dress. Girls are still welcome to wear their brown checks, but we’re looking forward to replacing this with our own school colour.

Once exams are over, our thoughts turn to the community around us and we look for ways to serve those less fortunate than ourselves. We will be involved in our regular three outreach programmes in the first week of December:

Nazareth House – retirement home and orphanage: please could you donate good used children’s clothing & toys for the children, and small gifts of chocolate/sweets/soap for the old people. Our Grade 4 – 6 pupils will be singing Christmas Carols to the elderly and our Grade 7 girls will visit the children in the orphanage on 4th December. Parents are welcome to accompany us and provide transport. If you would like to do so, please let Ms van Zyl know.
Fallen Angels animal rescue organisation – please donate pet related items (food/toys/bedding). Fallen Angels will visit our school on 4th December and do a presentation to our Grade 7 – 9 boys.
On 5th December, Grade 4 – 9 pupils will visit Tygerberg Nature reserve, from 09h00 – 12h00. Parents who would like to join the walk and/or provide transport, please let Ms van Zyl know.
Foundation Phase pupils will also be involved in special events at the end of term, so watch this space.

Further information regarding the above events will be provided nearer the time, but you may send your donations in the meantime.

As a Christian faith based school, we do not encourage Halloween activities, however, Monte Vista community is holding an event on 31st October that will support Boucher House, a safe haven for children in this area. I have attached the flyer and would like to encourage all to support this community event, which will be held on the big park where we had our Sports Day this year.

Many thanks to all parents for the readmission forms and for your loyalty to our school. You child will receive a Walton’s catalogue, along with stationery and textbook lists for 2019 during the course of this week.
